Start with the last confirmed event
Write down the most recent conversation, reward, location change, completed task, or other event you know happened. That gives you a reliable starting point.
Translate the objective into a requirement
Words such as meet, return, find, wait, or talk can reveal what kind of trigger you should be looking for. Do not treat the objective text as a complete checklist automatically.
Look one step backward
Ask what normally needs to happen immediately before the missing event. A forgotten interaction is often easier to find than the final trigger itself.
Test location and timing
If the relevant person or place is correct but nothing happens, check whether the event is restricted to another time or state of the day.
Change one variable at a time
Avoid simultaneously changing locations, characters, inventory and saves. A single controlled test tells you much more about the cause.
